After a roaring night on the town, fun-loving flapper Lilly Margolis, dazed and disoriented, twists her ankle and falls into the backyard of a wealthy family where the effects of the Great War—over for more than half a decade—are still endured. Inside the walls of the Burnside mansion, Cullen Burnside, a disillusioned and disfigured veteran, and his widowed mother, Betty Ruth, who daily slips a little further into dementia, lead a lonely existence … until Lilly. Whimsical, lighthearted, and beautiful, she rejuvenates their sad, disconnected lives and blossoms in the light of their attention.

But Lilly, like Cullen, is hiding from a painful past. And when Cullen insists on returning her to her faraway home, their budding attraction seems destined to die on the vine. The resulting road trip becomes a journey of self-discovery—but what will Cullen and Lilly find at journey’s end?

  1. I’m kind of a wuss so I will say a 5 Star hotel. I remember camping when our 5 kids were young. It was a LOT of work, preparing to go, being there and having to cook, clean up, tend the kids and then all the clean up and putting away when you got home. WAY TOO MUCH WORK! When could I read? LOL
Thanks for the opportunity to win the book.

    1. You’re welcome Anne. Camping can be some work, but I let me husband take care of a few things while I took time to read on our last camping trip. 🙂

  2. I would definitely spend my vacation in a five star hotel. I like to camp inside, not outside.

  3. A five star hotel as I’ve never gotten to. Where I live is like a campground.

    1. We took a camping trip to visit my daughter who lives in another state. I really loved being able to share the outdoors with my younger kids. 🙂

  4. My husband and I love camping. We have an RV, too old for tent camping!

  5. I would personally rather spend a vacation at a family campground. I suppose that, in a way, I am somewhat cheating because my family is in possession of a camp trailer that is like a mini house on wheels (it is just large enough to fit our family of seven). However, my best memories were made while camping with my family, and I would give almost anything to do that again – just relax at a campground in front of a campfire, roasting marshmallows and laughing about nothing and everything. Ahhh, it’s a sweet life!

    1. Wow – that is a big trailer Emily. I can relate to your memories about camping with your family. We camped with our older children when they were small and I have lots of fond memories from that. Last year, we began camping again so that we could introduce our younger children to it and I got more good memories to store away. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  6. I love this question for the give-away! A behind-the-scenes tid-bit…I didn’t initially have a family campground setting in mind for the story, but I bought a 1921 Rand McNalley Road Atlas so I could authentically plan the road trip in the story, and saw how many campgrounds were mentioned in it! That led to some research to find out they were a BOOMING industry in that time period. (plus, I was inspired by the movie It Happened One Night…”

  7. Glamping in a 5 star sounds good to me! Gotta have the A/C and indoor plumbing. 😉
