Todayβs book giveaway is for books 1 and 3 of Maureen Lang’s The Great War series.
Look to the East Synopsis:
France 1914
The small village of Briecourt may be isolated from early battles of World War I, but a century-old feud between the de Colvilles and Toussaints rages in the streets. Despite being adopted as a child, Julitte Toussaint endures the scorn of the de Colvilles more than most, give the folklore surrounding her heritage.
Then everything changes the day the German army sweeps in to occupy Briecourt, trapping a handful of outsiders behind enemy lines, including Belgian entrepreneur Charles Lassone. When Julitte discovers Charles hiding in the church basement, an unexpected and dangerous love blossoms between them.
But heroes aren’t made in cellars. Eager to join the Allied Forces — and prove himself worthy of Julitte’s love — Charles convinces the de Colvilles and the Toussaints to finally work together to smuggle him out.
Yet with the life of every villager on the line, who can be trusted? And when the line between ally and enemy is blurred, will faith and courage be enough to sustain them all?
Springtime of the Spirit Synopsis:
Germany, 1918
Four years of fighting have finally ended, and though there is little to celebrate in Germany, an undercurrent of hope swells in the bustling streets of Munich. Hope for peace, fairness — the possibility of a better tomorrow.
It’s a dream come true for Annaliese Duray. Young and idealistic, she’s fighting on the front lines of Munich’s political scene to give women and the working-class a voice in the new government. But she’s caught off guard by the arrival of Christophe Brecht, a family friend who’s been sent to bring her home.
That’s the last place she wants to go.
Christophe admires Annaliese’s passion. Since returning from the war, he’s not sure he’ll ever believe in anything so deeply again. Yet he can’t help but wonder if she’s abandoned the faith she once cherished for a system of beliefs she doesn’t truly understand.
As the political upheaval ignites in Munich, so does the attraction between Annaliese and Christophe. When an army from Berlin threatens everything Annaliesse has worked for, she and Christophe face choices that could jeopardize their loyalty, their love, and their very lives.
