Synopsis of the book:

Retired army captain Zach Zelinsky is determined to put his harrowing past behind him and start a quiet life selling his artwork. But the storefront building he buys comes with a tenant—a too-pretty tea shop owner who doesn’t give him a moment’s rest.

Ginger Carleton is rallying the merchants of Maple Springs, Michigan, for a Valentine’s Day window-decorating contest. And she’s on a mission to convince Zach to lose the gruff exterior and open up to her. As February 14 approaches, the wounded warrior may just find that Ginger is offering exactly what he’s been missing: love.

My review:

A grouchy retired military man and a bubbly extroverted shop owner—Conflict in the making.

I sometimes struggle with the Love Inspired stories. Many of them feel too rushed or lacking in emotional depth. This story was very pleasantly NOT that way.

I really enjoyed watching Zach and Ginger get to know each other and fall in love. I found Zach’s artwork fascinating to learn about. Any misunderstandings occurring between Zach and Ginger were quickly resolved. I’ve read some stories that frustrate me because a simple conversation would have cleared up the issue. In this story, those things were handled nicely and realistically.

Zach had some issues from his military service and the author handled them very well for a short story. Plus his connection to God had me emotionally invested. Well done.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Zach’s growth through the story in both his relationship with God and with Ginger.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The interaction with Ginger and her parents was a little awkward and felt a little unfinished  to me, but the story was about Ginger and Zach.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. This is what I want from the Love Inspired line: realistic romantic pacing, interesting characters, and well handled conflict.

Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
