Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason | Book Review by Loraine Nunley #BookReview @LoraineNunley

Synopsis of the book:

When a photo leads investigators in West Ireland to open a twenty-five-year-old cold case, Elite Guardians bodyguard Haley Callaghan’s life is suddenly in danger. Haley knows how to take care of herself; after all, she’s made a career out of taking care of others. But after she has an uncomfortably close call, Detective Steven Rothwell takes it upon himself to stay with her – and the young client she has taken under her wing. A protector at heart, he’s not about to let Haley fight this battle alone.

In a sweeping plot that takes them into long-buried memories – and the depths of the heart – Haley and Steven will have to solve the mystery of Haley’s past while dodging bullets, bombs, and bad guys who just won’t quit.

My review:

What a thrilling ride and a great end to this series. I loved the suspense and the characters. I was guessing about the villain right up to the end.

The moment Haley showed up in book one with her Irish accent and love of M&Ms, I was anxious to get to her story. I loved that it was not at all what I expected. She was strong, and rightfully so, but not so jaded that she couldn’t let people into her heart.

The romance between her and Steven jumped right off the pages. It was a quick attraction, which is common for a romantic suspense, but I felt it was a very believable romance.

Steven struggled with forgiveness and Haley helped him work through it. Her actions spoke far louder than her words.

One thing I wish was different was that the characters from the other stories, except Quinn, were far in the background. Since this was the last book in the series, I wanted to see more of them all. However, that did not detract from my enjoyment of Haley and Steven’s story.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Being that I don’t read too many lead characters with Irish accents, I’d say my favorite part of this story was simply Haley Callaghan.

What I didn’t like about this book:

That I only got to say goodbye to all the other characters from this series in the epilogue.

My rating:  5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Absolutely. Stellar suspense mixed with a well done romance. Grab your bag of M&Ms and hang out with Haley for a thrill ride. This is the fourth book in the series. It actually reads pretty well as a standalone, but I do recommend reading the other book because they are so good.
