Synopsis of the book:

Someone is dead set on stopping Shelby Arroyo from doing her job; assessing mineral rights in a mine in gold country. But after rancher Barrett Thorn rescues her from an attack, the handsome widowed cowboy seems to feel responsible for her. That is, until he discovers she’s from the family that he’ll never forgive for his wife’s death. As threats against Shelby escalate, cowboy honor and an unexpected attraction keep Barrett by her side, even at his own risk. And since Shelby won’t back down, Barrett must protect the brave, loyal woman he has no business falling for…a woman someone wants to kill by Christmas.

My review:

Like most Love Inspired Suspense, this story was action packed. From the moment Shelby and Barrett meet, trouble follows them. I loved the Thorn family and Barrett’s personality. That he would go so far to protect Shelby made me like him so much. I didn’t connect with Shelby as much and thought that she took risks she shouldn’t have but I could appreciate her loyalty to her uncle.

I did feel that Shelby and Barrett’s relationship progressed way to quick at the end, but I liked that forgiveness was done in a practical manner.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The Thorn family and the theme of forgiveness woven throughout.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The romance felt too rushed at the end.

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. There was definitely lots of action and the Thorn family was interesting. This is the first book in the series.

Note: I received this book complimentary from a book giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
