Book Review

Synopsis from GoodReads:

Molly Lovelace dreams of a life without cares in Lockhart, Texas. She also dreams of handsome wrangler Bailey Garner, her ardent but inconsistent beau. The problem is, with Bailey’s poor prospects, she just can’t fit the two dreams together.

Then mysterious stranger Edward Pierrepont sweeps into town–and her life–and for the first time Molly wonders if she’s met the man who can give her everything. But he won’t be in Lockhart long, and while it certainly seems like he talks about their glorious future together, she can’t quite get Bailey out of her mind.

What’s a girl to do with all these decisions when love is in the balance?

My review:

I was intrigued by the synopsis and loved the cover of this book. Unfortunately, I did not care for the actual characters once I read it. I found that I just couldn’t connect with Molly and Bailey or their story. I wanted to like Molly but, while I admired the fact that she managed to grow in maturity throughout the book, she never grew into a character that I liked. I appreciated Bailey’s struggles with his sinful nature, but his character growth seemed stilted. I felt that the secondary characters were disjointed in the story. They would show up and then disappear and then reappear again. The storyline with Edward left me unsatisfied.

What I liked about this book:

I liked a few of the secondary characters, like Prue and Carrie. It was too bad that their characters couldn’t have been more involved in Molly’s story. I found them interesting in contrast to Molly. I liked that Bailey was flawed, but was striving to do the right thing.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The disjointed way that secondary characters were littered throughout. They were introduced with the possibility for some interesting scenes and maybe plot twists, but then nothing happened with them. I was especially disappointed with the whole storyline involving Edward. It felt manufactured.

My rating: 2 1/2 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?

I read many 4 and 5 star reviews on this book so there are many people who liked it. It was a nice, clean read so, yes, I would encourage others to give it a try.
