Book Review: In Perfect Time by Sarah Sundin

Synopsis from back of book:

Bold, sophisticated, and coy, Army Air Force flight nurse Lt. Kay Jobson collects hearts wherever she flies, leaving men pining in airfields all across Europe. So how can ruggedly handsome C-47 pilot Lt. Roger Cooper be all but immune to her considerable charms? In fact, he seems to do everything he can to avoid her.

Still, as they cross the skies between Italy and southern France, evacuating the wounded and delivering paratroopers and supplies, every beat of their hearts draws them closer. Can they overcome the fears and misunderstandings of the past in order to take hold of the future?

My review:

As always, this author has a gift for weaving historical details into a wonderful romance.  When I think that her stories cannot get better, she proves me wrong.  I really enjoyed the story of Kay and Roger.  This book hit spiritual notes with me as Kay discovers God and that there is more to her than her looks. Roger is perfect for her even though it takes him long enough to realize it.  Great story!

I really liked walking through Kay’s journey with, both Roger and God. She feels the way that many people do in that we are not good enough for God’s love. Even though Roger explains God’s love to her very well, he also struggles with it.

Along with the spiritual thread, there was a really good love story between two people who saw the worth of the other person but not in themselves.  Finally, there was the action and suspense of serving during war time with historical details that I just don’t remember learning about in history class. I found myself fascinated by it all.

What I enjoyed most about this book:  The spiritual thread throughout… no, it was the historical action and details… no, wait, it was the love story of two flawed but good characters… okay, I guess I just enjoyed it all!

What I didn’t like about this book: …(chirp, chirp)…do you hear the crickets?…I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like.

My rating:  5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?  You bet!  I love how this author writes inspirational stories that aren’t preachy, love stories that are realistic and yet sigh-worthy, and then combines that with historical details that are interesting and entertaining. How does she do that? This book is the third and last book in the series. It contains a great ending for the series so even though it is a stand alone, I would recommend that you read the other two first so that the ending is more satisfying.
