Ladies of Intrigue by Michelle Griep | Book Review by Loraine Nunley #bookreview

The Gentleman Smuggler’s Lady

Synopsis of the book:

Cornish Coast, 1815

When a prim and proper governess returns to England from abroad, she expects to comfort her dying father—not fall in love with a smuggler. Will Helen Fletcher keep Isaac Seaton’s unusual secret?

My review:

I loved the initial meeting of Helen and Isaac. I did find my attention waning toward the end but this was a nice sweet romance.

The Doctor’s Woman

Synopsis of the book:

Dakota Territory, 1862

Emmy Nelson, daughter of a missionary doctor, and Dr. James Clark, city doctor aspiring to teach, find themselves working side by side at Fort Snelling during the Dakota Uprising. That is when the real clash of ideals begins.

My review:

This was not my favorite historical setting to read, but I did enjoy the strength in both Emmy and James. What a tough time frame in history, especially for those people who were attempting to help the injured.

A House of Secrets

Synopsis of the book:

St. Paul, Minnesota, 1890

Ladies Aide Chairman, Amanda Carston resolves to clean up St. Paul’s ramshackle housing, starting with the worst of the worst: a “haunted” house that’s secretly owned by her beau—a home that’s his only means of helping brothel girls escape from the hands of the city’s most infamous madam.

My review:

This one was my favorite of the novellas. This was a bite sized piece of Amanda and Joseph’s courtship. Their love was already established at the beginning, but survived the testing in this story. Sweet and lovely.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. All sweet romances with strong characters and vibrant historical settings.
