Moving Target by Lynette Eason | Book Review by Loraine Nunley #BookReview @lorainenunley

Synopsis of the book:

When Maddy McKay and Quinn Holcombe don’t show up for Quinn’s birthday party, his friends know that something is very wrong. Their search turns up little beyond evidence that Quinn and Maddy have vanished. And it soon becomes apparent that they did not leave of their own accord.

Maddy awakens in a cement room with no idea where she is. But it’s not long before she realizes she’s in the clutches of a madman who exacts revenge through games – hunting games. His prey of choice? Humans. Now Maddy and Quinn must run for their lives and outwit their killer when their game begins.

Because if they don’t win this game… they die.

My review:

This villain was just creepy. The suspense was strong but the romance took the edge off. I really enjoyed this story.

I don’t typically talk much about the villains in my reviews but, man oh man, was this villain creepy. 😮 The meticulous way that the villain goes after Maddy and Quinn just had me cringing… but turning the pages nonetheless.

Even though this is a standalone story, I highly recommend reading the others in the series because there is so much that goes on with Maddy and Quinn in the previous stories. I was anxious to read their story and was not disappointed.

Maddy is one tough cookie. Just when I thought she had been through enough, I got to read her backstory. I loved her ‘overcomer’ spirit. She deserved to find love and I was glad that she did.

Quinn was a likable rogue in the previous stories which made me all the more interested in his backstory. Tough as nails but flawed, he was a really good guy when I got to know him.

The mystery of the villain and how Maddy and Quinn were connected was so interesting. It was Biblically related and that just gave a deeper shiver down my spine. It made me think hard about the transition from believer to wacko villain.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

I would have to say that the villain’s methods and thought process were the most fascinating to me, even though it was scary to contemplate someone behaving that way.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The reminder that technology is not always our friend. Hint: The villain used it to full advantage.

My rating:  4 ½ out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. As expected, the suspense was good and well balanced with the romance. Another winner for romantic suspense readers. This is the third book in the series. It can be read as a standalone but there is some good backstory on Maddy and Quinn in the previous ones. Time to dive into book 4…

Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
