Ransomed Dreams by Amy Wallace | Book Review by Loraine Nunley

Synopsis from the back of the book:

When tragedy struck and Gracie Lang lost everything, her faith crumbled, and nothing but the drive for justice propelled her forward. But after two years of dead-end searching, the truth Gracie seeks is the very thing her stalker will stop at nothing to hide.

An FBI agent in the Crimes Against Children Unit, Steven Kessler spends his days rescuing other people’s children and nights caring for his son. He’s through with God, embittered by his ex-wife who abandoned them both, and definitely doesn’t expect what’s coming next.

A plot to kidnap a British ambassador’s daughter dangerously intersects Steven and Gracie’s worlds — a collision that demands a decision. But are they willing to pay the high ransom required to redeem dreams and reignite hope?

My review:

The beginning of this book took hold of my emotions right away. The tragedy that happens to Gracie is more than most can bear. How will she deal with it and move on? There was lots of suspense as Gracie and Steven come into one another’s lives and deal with the evil that threatens them both.

I felt empathy for Gracie right away and I wondered how she would begin to heal from her scars. I liked that, even though she struggled with her faith, she was still able to hold on to it.

Steven was definitely battle worn between his career and his personal life. I was glad to see him grow as he questioned his faith. I wasn’t sure how the two storylines (Steven’s and Gracie’s) would intersect so I did feel like things slowed down in the middle, but there was enough questions to keep me going so that I could get the answers.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The emotional beginning and watching Gracie begin to heal from her tragic past.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Too many characters to keep track of at the beginning and the story slowing down in the middle before the bad guy pulls both lead characters together.

My rating:  3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?  Yes. I was drawn into the story at the beginning. This is the first book in the series.
