Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Doughtery | Book Review by Loraine D. Nunley

Synopsis of the book:

Children’s clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball’s soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar-entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Beaten, bound, and gagged by the two thugs inside, Mary Wade loses hope for escape when a third villain returns with supplies.

Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Weighing the difference of ruining his three months’ investigation against the woman’s safety, Brett forsakes his mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind.

When Mary Wade’s safety is threatened once more, Brett rescues her again. This time, her personal safety isn’t the only thing in jeopardy. Her heart is endangered as well.

My review:

This was a nice story with a sweet romance in the midst of some suspenseful situations. It was not an edge-of-the-seat page turner for me, but I did enjoy the romance between Mary Wade and Brett.

I liked the sweet simmering romance and that, between suspenseful situations, Brett and Mary Wade were able to get to know each other.

I really enjoyed Brett. You can’t go wrong with a handsome rescuer. I also loved his faith. In fact, I believe that the faith thread was my favorite thing about this book. I liked that the faith was lived out as opposed to just being talked about.

Given the story summary and the darkness of the cover, I was expecting a page turning suspense. The suspense was good, but not heavy enough throughout to make it a page turner for me. I would probably classify the story as a romance with a suspense thread.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The romance between Mary Wade and Brett coupled with a nice faith thread.

What I didn’t like about this book:

I felt that the part of the story with Brett’s co-worker felt a little disjointed.

My rating:ย  3 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?ย  Yes. It is a nice romance with some good suspenseful situations thrown in.
