The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright | Book Review by Loraine Nunley #BookReview @lorainenunley

Synopsis of the book:

For over a century, the town of Gossamer Grove has thrived on its charm and Midwestern values, but Annalise Forsythe knows painful secrets, including her own, hover just beneath the pleasant facade. Yet her strange and sudden inheritance of a run-down trailer home – full of pictures, vintage obituaries, and old revival posters – leaves her wholly unprepared for how truly dark and deadly those secrets may be.

A century earlier, Gossamer Grove is stirred into chaos by the arrival of controversial and charismatic twin revivalists. The chaos takes a murderous turn when Libby Sheffield, while working at her father’s newspaper, receives an obituary for a reputable church deacon hours before his death. As she works with the deacon’s son to solve the crime, it becomes clear that a reckoning has come to town – but it isn’t until another obituary arrives at the paper that they realize the true depths of the danger they’ve waded into.

Two women, separated by a hundred years, must unravel the mysteries of their own town before it’s too late and they lose their future – or their very souls.

My review:

Another successfully thrilling story from a gifted author. Wow. This story made me lock my doors and hide under the covers as I traveled back and forth through time with Annalise and Libby. What secrets were being held and what more diabolical things would happen in the midst of uncovering them?

Suspenseful, thrilling, creepy, and yet still infused with hope, love, and forgiveness. I am in awe of how this author is able to delve so deep into the human psyche without turning the reader away.

I loved Annalise and her struggle to move past her deep secrets to help others. When another person would have just up and moved away, she chose to stay in a town that held a number of judgmental people. She had love, lost it, and I rooted for her to find it again.

Libby took a little bit of time to get behind. Her timeline started with a bang and her personality had to compete with it. I was kept in the dark over her secret, and if she would find love, pretty much up to the end.

The plot of this dual time line story was woven together so expertly, I was compelled to turn the pages. 🙂

What I enjoyed most about this book

The way the two stories were sewn together – wonderfully done!

What I didn’t like about this book:

I had no life once I got involved in this book because I had to keep reading until the end.

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? You need to ask? Absolutely! Great story line, flawed but interesting characters, and page turning suspense. This is a standalone story.
