True to You by Becky Wade | Book Review by Loraine Nunley

Synopsis of the book:

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford decided that burying her nose in her work and her books was far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. However, when John, an adoptee, is diagnosed with an inherited condition, he’s forced to dig into the secrets of his ancestry.

John enlists Nora’s help to uncover the identity of his birth mother, and as they work side by side, this pair of opposites begins to suspect that they just might be a perfect match. But can their hope for a future survive their wounds from the past?

My review:

This was a really good book. I loved the slow and heated romance between Nora and John. I was riveted by the deep issues presented and the twist. Most of all, I absolutely loved the portrayal of God’s love for us as individuals. I definitely recommend this book.

That was my short version. Here’s the long one:

How can I say this?

Wow. Just wow.

While I was reading this book I came across another reviewers post where she said she had cried reading this book. I’m not typically a crier when I read books so I figured I was safe.

I was wrong.

Full disclosure. I didn’t actually cry. But I wanted to. The romance, the depth of pain, the twist that I did NOT see coming…

Wow.

At first I wanted to shake Nora out of her self induced fictional boyfriend coma. As I came to know her I really loved her capacity to connect with people. I also loved how she reacted to John and how she selflessly helped him.

I was amused by the way that John was referred to by all of Nora’s friends and family as “the Navy SEAL”. He was honorable and humble, as well as handsome. The struggle he has with his diagnosis and digging into his ancestry was gripping.

I absolutely loved how God showed up in the pages of this romance. Not in a preachy way, but in a real and deep reminder that our individuality comes from Him.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The deep inspirational message that came from the story without preaching at me.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The twist. It was necessary and the story may not have been as gripping without it but boy did I have to fight the tears.

My rating:Β  5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?Β  Yes, but not to anyone looking to read a fluffy romance. This book had heat and depth. Given the nature of the issue that the author takes on, this is definitely an adult novel. I would recommend reading the prequel novella to this series, Then Came You, to give you an idea of what to expect from this series. This is the first book in the series and I am looking forward to reading the others.

Note: I received this book complimentary as a participant of the Litfuse Blog Tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
