Book Review: Two Roads Home by Deborah Raney

Synopsis of the book:

Nagging setbacks continue to sour Grant and Audrey Whitman’s initiation into the world of innkeeping, but larger challenges brew when an innocent flirtations leads to big trouble for the Whitmans’ son-in-law Jesse.

Jesse Pennington’s friendly, outgoing personality has always served him well, especially in a career that has earned him and his wife, Corinne, a very comfortable lifestyle. But Corinne and Jesse are both restless — and for similar reasons. Their life is complicated. Too many business trips and trumped-up charges of harassment from a disgruntled coworker threaten their marriage and possibly put their three precious daughters at risk.

With their lives in disarray, God is tugging at their hearts to pursue other dreams. Can Corinne and Jesse pick up the pieces of what was once a wonderful life before everything crumbles beneath them?

My review:

I really enjoyed this story. Jesse and Corinne struggle with a lifestyle that affords them material luxuries, but it is beginning to come at a cost of their personal happiness. I loved that when they were at odds with each other, they worked out their issues rather than walking away from each other.

The harassment charges. Oh my. I was frustrated and scared for Jesse as he struggled with his natural friendliness which puts his family and his marriage at risk. It was such a cloud hanging over the family and I was kept turning the pages to find out what would happen.

I loved how the Whitman’s faith was once again tested as the family supported Corinne and Jesse, but they came through it stronger in their knowledge that God would provide for them.

I was left with unanswered questions about Jesse’s coworker, which was why I took a star off of my review. I hope that they get answered in the next book of this series.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

A strong marriage struggling with very real problems and shining a light on God’s provision and marital love.

What I didn’t like about this book:

The unanswered questions about Jesse’s coworker.

My rating:  4 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?  Yes, definitely. It has good characters, a wonderful faith message, and addresses real world concerns. This is the second book in the Chicory Inn series. It is a standalone book, but it should be read after the first book or it will give away the surprises in the first one.
