What is this book about?
All couples need clear communication, especially in the face of obstacles. Rob Flood teaches practical, biblical wisdom for couples interested in growing in their marriages together toward Christ. Learn to better understand your partner and remain as God made you, all while honoring Christ with your words.
The subtitle really sums up this book: Five Communication Tools for Marriage and Life. This book is a good tool to have for building up your marriage. It starts by giving you the issues involved in communication between husband and wife, then gives five specific things you can work on to make communication more efficient. The last section gives examples of these five things in play.
Having written a self-help book for marriage, I appreciate the effort and advice that went into this book. The tools are practical and backed up by biblical teachings. I think this is a good resource for married couples and can also be used in general communication with those we love. All too often we are better at communicating with strangers than we are with those we are closest too. This book shines a light on it and gently moves us to change.
This book can be used as a group study or couple study book because it has discussion questions at the end of each chapter.
The one thing that I didn’t care for was the last chapters regarding forgiveness, grace, and compassion. While I don’t discount their importance in communication, I found myself trying to skim the pages. I’m not sure why, but they failed to hold my attention.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
Specific tools for improving communication and biblical backup for each one.
What I didn’t like about this book:
The last chapters were a little dry for me.
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. I think this is a good resource, not only for married couples but for communication in general.
Note: I received this book complimentary from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed are my own.
