There are moments in our lives that become etched deeply in our memories. Those times when we know exactly what we were doing and feeling at that moment. It is that way with many great historical moments in history.
September 11, 2001 was one of those times.
I remember exactly what I was doing when I learned about the terror attacks on US soil. I remember hearing the radio news report while sitting at my desk and not believing it to be true. I remember alerting other co-workers to what I had just heard and watching someone turn on the TV in our conference room. I remember the surreal feeling as I watched the smoke billowing from the first tower in NYC. I remember the astonishment watching the second tower be hit and the dismay as it came down.
I did not have family or friends in any of the terror attacks, but even after all of these years, I can still remember how my heart broke for those people who did.
It was a disturbing reminder of the evil that exists in our world and an underscoring of our need for a savior.
These are the memories that become deeply etched so that we never forget. We never forget those who have passed on in the wake of such evil. We never forget those who grieve, even now, for their loved ones. We never forget those who have given their all to protect us from that evil.
May we never forget our need for the Savior.
