What is this book about?

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary people extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

Epics are no friends of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man, you must crush his will.

Now, in what was once Chicago, an astonishingly powerful Epic named Steelheart has installed himself as emperor. Steelheart possesses the strength of ten men and can control the elements. It is said that no bullet can harm him, no sword can split his skin, and no fire can burn him. He is invincible. Nobody fights back . . . nobody but the Reckoners.

A shadowy group of ordinary humans, the Reckoners spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in.

When Steelheart came to Chicago, he killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David has been studying, and planning, and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He has seen Steelheart bleed.    And he wants revenge.

My review:

Note: Sci-Fi/Fantasy are not genres I typically read so I am not the audience for this book. However, someone recommended it to me and after reading the first look pages on Amazon, I was hooked. Now onto the review…

This story grabbed me from the very first line and kept me turning the pages. I was drawn into David’s world where super humans controlled the world in a dystopian future. There were a few twists I guessed but a few more I was pleasantly surprised by, particularly the climax. Even though I think a YA book should automatically be clean, many are not so I loved that this one was.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Well told story of good vs evil

What I didn’t like about this book:

Nothing

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Absolutely, and that is coming from someone who doesn’t typically read this genre. The story was not only clean, but was filled with action, suspense, great characters and complex human issues. This is the first book in the series. I’ve already ordered the second one.
