Lizzy Bennet loves life as a lawyer in the city. And not just because of the miles it puts between her and her ex. However, when she’s attacked on the street just hours after learning her identity was stolen, she tries to call home for help and ends up with the last person she expects: the very same high school boyfriend who broke her heart. He says he’s there to help, but she’s not so sure, and now, all the endless questions and regrets are clouding her judgment and preventing her from seeing the dangerous saboteur closing in.
Small-town auto mechanic, Koby Knightly, is looking forward to seeing a car show in the city. But when an unexpected call from his old girlfriend disconnects suddenly, he rushes to her aid. Throwing his plans out the window, Koby makes it his mission to protect her and discover the identity of the person trying to frame her. Will he also be able to figure out what went wrong between them back in high school or will a killer get to her first?

My review:
This was a fast paced suspense sprinkled with not only sabotage but romance. I liked that I wasn’t able to guess who was after Lizzy. I could also see how the miscommunication between Lizzy and Koby would drive them apart.
Lizzy started off as a strong character and while I rooted for her to get past all of the threats on her life, I thought she got a little wishy washy toward the end. But I did like her loyalty to her family and her determination to protect them.
Even though there were loads of feelings between Koby and Lizzy as well as water under the bridge, the romance between them felt light to me. Perhaps that had something to do with Lizzy’s questioning herself on where she belonged.
The suspense was pretty well paced and there was lots of it. There were a few suspects and I was surprised by the villain. I really like that.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
The suspense was definitely my favorite part.
What I didn’t like about this book:
There were quite a few references to the storylines in books 1 and 2 of this series. While this could be a standalone story, I found some of those ‘remember when?’ times made me feel like I had missed something.
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes, with a caveat. I think that the first two books in the series should be read beforehand given the amount of references to them in this book. The suspense was fast and the romance was sweet. This is the third book in the series.
Note: I received this book complimentary as a participant of the Prism book tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed are my own.
