What is this book about?
After being dumped by her fiancé, Chloe St. John has decided that the only male she likes is her K-9 German shepherd partner, Hank. But being over the whole romance thing has perks–like giving full attention to her job. Attention she’s definitely going to need because a case of human trafficking with connections to her missing cousin just landed in her lap.
Deputy US Marshall Blake MacCallum is in a race against the clock to rescue his kidnapped daughter when Chloe and Hank are asked to be a part of the task force assembled to bring down the traffickers. Chloe finds herself attracted to the silent, suffering man. But can she trust him?
And can Blake trust himself around this firecracker of a woman?
My review:
Loved. This. Story. From the very start of the story, the suspense gripped me and wouldn’t let go until the bad guys went down. Right alongside the suspense was a sweet and wonderful romance between Chloe and Blake. Thrown into the mix were loving family dynamics, a struggling father-daughter relationship, great canine partner relationship, and a deeply impactful world issue and, wow! The expert way this story was woven together made me gasp, tear up, laugh, and swoon… I loved it all. Highly recommend.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
Everything. One of my top favorite stories of the year.
What I didn’t like about this book:
Nothing

Would I recommend this book to others? Absolutely. Page-turning suspense, wonderful characters, touching romance, and gripping evil to overcome. This is the second book in the series. It can be read as a stand-alone or even out of order. The first book was also a 5-star read.
