Synopsis of the book:
Jericho “J.T.” Tucker wants nothing to do with Coventry, Texas’s new dressmaker. He’s all too familiar with her kind–shallow women more devoted to fashion than true beauty. Yet, except for her well-tailored clothing, this seamstress is not at all what he expected.
Hannah Richards is confounded by the man who runs the livery. The unsmiling fellow riles her with his arrogant assumptions and gruff manner while at the same time stirring her heart with unexpected acts of kindness. Which side of Jericho Tucker reflects the real man?
When Hannah decides to help Jericho’s sister catch a beau–leading to uproarious consequences for the whole town–will Jericho and Hannah find a way to bridge the gap between them?
My review:
This was an enjoyable romance. I loved how Hannah turned Jericho’s perceptions of her upside down. I also enjoyed that Hannah was an independent woman but was not so independent that she didn’t need anyone.
I found it really interesting that Hannah engaged in exercise. I admit that I didn’t know much about exercise during that time period in history. It was not something that I equated with women back then. I love it when I learn new things about history this way. 🙂
I liked that Jericho was so protective but his perceptions of beauty really needed to be challenged. Hannah did just that in such a great way. She was a wonderful personality which made it difficult for him to keep the thought process that external beauty did not reflect inner beauty.
It is okay for a woman to reflect outer beauty as well as inner beauty and I thought this author handled that topic with grace and light humor.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
I think I liked Hannah’s inner beauty and depth of character the best. When Jericho explains why he feels focusing on outer beauty is wrong, Hannah takes his explanation to heart and searches her own spiritual motivations.
What I didn’t like about this book:
I think there might have been a couple of parts when the pacing was slower than I would have liked, but the interaction between Hannah and everyone around her made up for it.
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. This book had a nice romance sprinkled with bits of humor.
