What is this book about?

Ex-Minneapolis Police Detective Rembrandt Stone walked away from a career he loved—just the price of being sure he can come home to the wife and daughter he cherishes. But he can’t shake the deep regret over a case left behind.

When his mentor, the former Chief of Homicide dies and leaves Rembrandt with a box of cold cases and a mysterious watch, he finds himself thrust into a world he recognizes—a world from twenty years ago—the same world he’s woken from in a cold sweat a hundred times. But is it a dream, or some kind of twisted reality?

If he solves the case that plagues him, and justice is finally served, will it destroy the life he loves?

My review:

It took me some time to get into the story and there were two different POV’s for the main characters which threw me a little bit, however, once I got into the rhythm of the writing style, I was hooked.

Rembrandt has a good life with his wife and daughter, but there are ghosts that haunt him so when he stumbles onto a way to right those things that went wrong in the past, he jumps at the chance. Like Rem, I was confused as to how this was happening and what the watch had to do with it.

There is a great play of emotions as he lives a past life with the knowledge he’s gained from living longer so the tension is very well done.

This story ends with a cliffhanger so dramatic that I was glad I had the second book handy to jump right into and I recommend that for other readers.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Emotional tension that made me turn the pages

What I didn’t like about this book:

Cliffhanger

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes, but with the caveat that you should have the entire series available to read at the same time. Thrilling, interesting characters, and great premise. This is the first book in the series. I do not recommend reading it without being able to jump right into book two since there’s a cliffhanger ending.

Note: I received this book complimentary from a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
