Selene Ravenwood, once the heir to House Ravenwood, is now an exile. On the run and free of her family’s destiny, Selene hopes to find the real reason her family was given the gift of dreamwalking. But first she must adapt to her new life as wife to Lord Damien Maris, the man she was originally assigned to kill.

While adjusting to her marriage and her home in the north, her power over dreams begins to grow. As the strongest dreamwalker to exist in ages, her expanding power attracts not only nightmares but the attention of the Dark Lady herself.

With a war looming on the horizon and a wicked being after her gift, Selene is faced with a choice: embrace the Dark Lady’s offer, or search out the one who gave her the gift of dreamwalking. One path offers power, the other offers freedom. But time is running out, and soon her choice will be made for her.

Christian Fantasy
Paperback & ebook, 352 Pages
November 6th 2018 by Bethany House Publishers

Lady Selene is the heir to the Great House of Ravenwood and the secret family gift of dreamwalking. As a dreamwalker, she can enter a person’s dreams and manipulate their greatest fears or desires. For the last hundred years, the Ravenwood women have used their gift of dreaming for hire to gather information or to assassinate.

As she discovers her family’s dark secret, Selene is torn between upholding her family’s legacy–a legacy that supports her people–or seeking the true reason behind her family’s gift.

Her dilemma comes to a head when she is tasked with assassinating the one man who can bring peace to the nations, but who will also bring about the downfall of her own house.

One path holds glory and power, and will solidify her position as Lady of Ravenwood. The other path holds shame and execution. Which will she choose? And is she willing to pay the price for the path chosen?

My Review

Reviewers Note: Since my young adult daughter is the fantasy fan and the intended audience of these books, she is the one reviewing them here.

I was expecting generic high fantasy with wizards and dwarfs, but I was pleasantly surprised that this fantasy wasn’t like that. I liked how there was a level of darkness but it warmed up throughout. The author trusted young adult readers with adult matters in a well done manner. Adult things were addressed but descriptions were not explicit.

I didn’t care for Selene. She was too willing to comply to the wishes of others. I liked Damian, who was more willing to usurp the status quo.  The descriptions really made me feel like I was there.

What I enjoyed most about this book

The descriptions of the dreams which were so odd (in a good way).

What I didn’t like about this book:

Lady Selene’s character. I wanted her to be more assertive.

My rating:  4 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. Particularly if you want a slightly different slant on fantasy. This is the first book in this series.

My Review

Reviewers Note: Since my young adult daughter is the fantasy fan and the intended audience of these books, she is the one reviewing them here.

This book had more action and setting changes. I found the descriptions and details about the two religions very interesting. I liked how the two Forces represented God and Satan. Normally when God is referenced in fantasy, it pulls me out of the story, but not with this story. I also liked that Damian and Selene finally fall in love. I grew to like Selene more in this one. She is more assertive.

What I enjoyed most about this book

Discovering more about the world that Selene and Damian live in.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Some of Selene’s powers seemed forced.

My rating: 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. I enjoyed the continuing story even more than the first book. This is the second book in this series.

Note: I received these books complimentary as a participant of the Prism book tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed are my own.
