Synopsis of the book:
Miss Isadora Delafield may be an heiress, but her life is far from carefree. When her mother begins pressuring her to marry an elderly and uncouth duke, she escapes from the high-society world she’s always known and finds herself an unlikely candidate for a housekeeper position in rural Pennsylvania.
Mr. Ian MacKenzie is known for his savvy business sense and has built his reputation and fortune completely through traditional hard work. But when his adopted parents are in need of a housekeeper and Isadora is thrown into his path, he’s unexpectedly charmed by her unconventional manner.
Neither Isadora nor Ian expected to find the other so intriguing, but when a chain of mysterious incidents on the farm point to a larger threat, they’ll have to set aside everything they thought they wanted for a chance at happy-ever-after.
My review:
Another lovely and swoony historical romance from a talented storyteller. I look forward to every book this author puts out because I can count on great romance, quirky characters, and laugh-out-loud situations. This latest book fits the bill.
Isadora, or Izzie, is such a wonderful character. Life as a great heiress has made her somewhat spoiled but peeking out of that shell is the heart of a caring woman. Take her out of her element and toss her into the arms of a strong, handsome man, and you’ve got a real page turning romance. She grew so much and I really enjoyed her journey.
Ian is perfect for her, even though he doesn’t know it. I loved the sparks that showed up right away and I especially loved that he was a little dangerous. I would definitely want him protecting me if my life were in danger.
My favorite part, besides the heart racing romance, was the funny situations that this author put her characters in. I just loved the animals, the kids and the fun they created. I got a good laugh, or two, or more… 🙂
What I enjoyed most about this book:
Juicy romantic situations galore
What I didn’t like about this book:
That creepy duke 😮
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Would I recommend this book to others? Oh yes. You’ll sigh from the romance, and laugh over the silly situations. This is the first book in the series. I’m looking forward to the rest.
