Book Review: Here to Stay by Melissa Tagg

If there’s one thing Autumn Kingsley knows, it’s Whisper Shore. For years, she’s been stuck running her family’s inn when all she wants is to see the world. Now she has a visit scheduled from a potential investor who could take over the inn, as well as a dream job offer in Paris. But with just two weeks to whip the inn into shape, her chance at escape is a long shot.
The Hunzikers and the Kingsleys may not get along, but Blake knows Autumn’s the only one who can help him. She agrees to a trade — she’ll help with the festival and he’ll help with inn repairs. But what was meant to be a simple deal quickly becomes much more than that when the guy who’s done running away joins forces with the girl who can’t wait to leave.
My review:
What an enjoyable story with great characters, wonderful humor, movie worthy moments, and an inspirational thread peeking through. I loved the chemistry between Autumn and Blake. But how would they get together when their families rivaled the story of Romeo and Juliet and their end goals were so completely different? I asked that and I loved how the author answered that question.
I am a reader of this authors blog and I have always loved her sense of humor. That is prevalent in her story of Autumn and Blake. The crazy things that you think only happen in movies showed up in the midst of them trying to help each other. I really liked that.
Blake has carried the weight of a family tragedy around with him for many years, but instead of making him a bitter man, he is actually funny, sensitive, and compassionate. He has been running from his past and now he wants to settle down to a normal life.
Autumn, on the other hand, wants adventure. She, too, is carrying the weight of her familial burdens on her shoulders but she manages to do it with such grace that I just really liked her. She is such a great partner for Blake and they do more healing for each other than they realize.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
I can’t decide if I like the humorous situations or Blake more. Or maybe the humorous situations with Blake? I laughed and I loved that.
What I didn’t like about this book:
Not much. This was a really good story. There were a few times when some pop culture references were made and I didn’t get all of them, but that is really minor in the big story picture.
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. This author’s sense of humor just made for some really entertaining situations between the characters. I also liked how there was a lot of details, but it was sprinkled into story rather than being placed in long paragraphs.
