Synopsis of the book:
Working as a paid companion may be quite commonplace, but Miss Gertrude Cadwalader’s eccentric employer makes her job unpredictable, to say the least. She finds herself carrying out an array of highly unusual tasks, including wearing peculiar outfits and returning items the woman pilfered. But when the wealthy Mrs. Sinclair catches Gertrude sneaking around the Sinclair yacht with some of the missing items in her possession, she immediately jumps to the wrong conclusion.
Shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair is caught in the middle of a misunderstanding between his mother and Gertrude, but he can’t help coming to his friend’s defense. Even as he hopes their friendship might become something more, Harrison is unprepared for the outlandish escapades that seem to follow the lovely, anything-but-ordinary Gertrude at every turn.
My review:
This was my favorite book of this series. I loved it! Two kind-hearted and generous individuals go from friendship to love in the midst of hilarious circumstances.
I knew I was going to love Gertrude and Harrison’s story from the moment they tried to take over the first book in this series. Gertrude suffers from low self-esteem, with some very compelling reasons. That poor girl. 🙁 But she is still so kind and giving. I loved watching her find her own worth and love in the process.
Harrison Sinclair… oh my. Dare I say, one of my favorite heroes? Yes. I’m going to go with that. He was handsome and yet very down to earth. I particularly loved his sense of style and how Gertrude accepted that part of him unquestionably.
Of course, there were giggles and laugh out loud moments galore from this story. Some of those moments made me sorry for those poor men who try to read the female mind and come up on the wrong end of things. But at least they try, right?
What I enjoyed most about this book:
Gertrude and Harrison, both apart and together – especially together.
What I didn’t like about this book:
Nothing. I loved this story.
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Would I recommend this book to others? You have to ask? Of course I would recommend this book wholeheartedly. This story has wonderful characters, sweet romance, and lots of funny moments. This is the second book in the series. I read this series out of order and wish I hadn’t. This book can be read as a standalone, but the characters show up and grow in each one so I would recommend reading them in order beginning with the intro novella, At Your Request.
Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
