What is this book about?

Brook Eden has never known where she truly belongs. Though raised in the palace of Monaco, she’s British by birth and was brought to the Grimaldis under suspicious circumstances as a babe. When Brook’s friend Justin uncovers the fact that Brook is likely a missing heiress from Yorkshire, Brook leaves the sun of the Mediterranean to travel to the moors of the North Sea to the estate of her supposed family.

The mystery of her mother’s death haunts her, and though her father is quick to accept her, the rest of the family and the servants of Whitby Park are not. Only when Brook’s life is threatened do they draw close–but their loyalty may come too late to save Brook from the same threat that led to tragedy for her mother.

As heir to a dukedom, Justin is no stranger to balancing responsibilities. When the matters of his estate force him far from Brook, the distance between them reveals that what began as friendship has grown into something much more. But how can their very different loyalties and responsibilities ever come together?

And then, for a second time, the heiress of Whitby Park is stolen away because of the very rare treasure in her possession–and this time only the servants of Whitby can save her.

My review:

There’s suspense, mystery, and romance – a winning combination. Justin and Brook are childhood friends and I loved how they related to one another. There were special nicknames and inside secrets plus they had a great deal of respect for one another. I really enjoy how this author manages to dive deep into inspirational threads without being preachy.

The mystery surrounding Brook’s birth and her mother’s death was so intriguing. There were many suspects, plus one in-your-face villain. It was nail biting to see Brook face the dangers brought on by circumstances beyond her control.

Justin had his fair share of setbacks as he tries to set his own path and pave the way for a permanent relationship with Brook. I loved his strength and rooted for him every step of the way.

While most of the mystery is resolved at the end of this story, the suspense isn’t over. A hint of things to come in the next book is revealed.

Besides Brook and Justin, my favorite character was Brice. I loved his deep relationship with God which translated into hearing and acting upon God’s voice without question. His story is the second book in this series.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The strength and sweetness of Brook, particularly when she is with her father.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Would have liked more of Justin’s POV while he is traveling abroad.

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. Really strong characters and deep emotions wrapped in a suspenseful package. Even the secondary characters were interesting. This is the first book in this series.
