What is this book about?

Evan Eldridge never meant to be a war hero—he only wanted to fight Napoleon for the future of his country. And her certainly didn’t think saving the life of a peer would mean being made the Earl of Whitelock. But when the life you save is dear to the Prince Regent, things can change in a hurry.

Now Evan has a noble title, a manor house in shambles, and a stranger for a bride, all thrust upon him by a grateful ruler What he doesn’t have are all his memories. Traumatized from wounds incurred on the battlefield, Evan knows there’s something he can’t quite remember. It’s important, dangerous, and—if he doesn’t recall it in time—will jeopardize not only his new marriage but someone’s very life.

My review:

Let the gushing begin. 🙂

I loved this story. This is what fiction should be. It was entertaining and took me away from real life whenever I opened the pages. The good characters were good without being weak, the bad characters got what was coming to them, and the romance was sweet and filled me with hope.

From the very start I adored Evan. There was such strength in his character which was tried many many times as his choices were taken out of his own hands. He had reason to question God but he held onto his faith and turned his circumstances into good.

Diana was so wonderful. Like Evan, she had her choices made for her and her life was not a happy one until Evan came into it. Yet there was strength to her as well. She was the epitome of the Biblical scriptures, “struck down, but not destroyed”.

Watching Evan and Diana draw together to build a new life was wonderful. I liked that they managed to get past their issues through communication. They were compassionate and giving not only to each other but to others around them.

This was also a story where I really enjoyed the secondary characters as well. There was a lot of dimension to them. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series featuring Evan’s friend.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The sweet romance with great characters.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Some of the bad guys gave me the creepy-crawlies but that added to the depth of the story.
