What is this book about?
You can’t always decide where life will take you—especially when you’re a kid.
Carlie knows she’s got no say in what happens to her. Stuck in a foster home with two other kids, Harvey and Thomas J, she’s just a pinball being bounced from bumper to bumper. As soon as you get settled, somebody puts another coin in the machine and off you go again.
But against her will and her better judgment, Carlie and the boys become friends. And all three of them start to see that they can take control of their own lives.
My review:
I read this book multiple times as a child because I really liked the story. Would the story still interest me as an adult? The answer is a definite yes. While the backstories for Carlie, Harvey, and Thomas J. were sad, which was the reason for them ending up in foster care, the way that they grew throughout the story was great.
Reading this nostalgic story reminded me why I checked it out of the library on multiple occasions. I will definitely be getting a copy for my keeper shelf.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
The growth of the main characters
What I didn’t like about this book:
Nothing
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. Interesting characters and good story. This is a standalone novel.
