What is this book about?
In the shadow of the nation’s capital, Kate Livingston’s respectable life as a government worker is disrupted by an encounter with the insufferable Trevor McDonough, the one man she’d hoped never to see again. A Harvard-trained physician, Trevor never showed the tiniest flicker of interest in Kate, and business is the only reason he has sought her out now.
Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees to Trevor’s risky proposal to join him in his work to find a cure for tuberculosis. As Kate begins to unlock the mysteries of Trevor’s past, his hidden depths fascinate her. However, a shadowy enemy lies in wait, and Trevor’s closely guarded secrets are darker than she suspected.
As revelations from the past threaten to destroy their careers, their dreams, and even their lives, Trevor and Kate find themselves in a painfully impossible situation. With everything to lose, they must find the strength to trust that hope and love can prevail over all.
My review:
If there was ever two characters so wrong for each other that they were right together, it was Kate and Trevor. What a great push-pull relationship they had. I was riveted to the end.
When I think of people fitting together, I picture good offsets to their personalities. Strengths and weaknesses that are like puzzle pieces fitting together. I wasn’t sure how Kate and Trevor would work because they were so much alike.
Little did I know that it was those similarities that would make them so good together—once they got past the fears holding them back. It was iron sharpening iron and God smoothed out those things that didn’t work and fit them together.
This novel brought light to the illness of tuberculosis. It was something I did not know much about and I found Trevor’s fascination with it very interesting. I learned a lot.
What I enjoyed most about this book:
The character development of Kate and Trevor’s fierce determination to bring an end to a dreaded disease even to the point of great sacrifice.
What I didn’t like about this book:
Nothing. I really enjoyed this story.
Would I recommend this book to others? Definitely. Great characters, a well-developed romance, and a very informative historical aspect.
Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
