The CH-47 Chinook helicopter is a multi-mission, heavy-lift transport aircraft. It has the reputation of being a workhorse as well as being the most reliable and efficient transport helicopter. It is capable of transporting people, vehicles, equipment and even other aircraft. The unique design of its tandem rotors gives it the capability of flying in conditions that many helicopters cannot. It can load and unload on the water, on large ships, and on many different terrains. Its handling capabilities coupled with its speed and ability to transport heavy cargo, make it an aircraft in high demand.

Its primary job is to move military troops, supplies, and equipment on the battlefield. However, it’s design and capabilities have made it useful in non-military ways as well. It has been utilized for search and rescue, as well as firefighting, and humanitarian purposes.
