I don’t do new year resolutions. Every time I make them, I seem to set myself up for failure. Then I get discouraged because I wasn’t able to keep them. It is probably because resolutions tend to be specific rather than general, at least I think mine were. So a few years ago I decided not to make them.

But that doesn’t mean that I don’t have goals or make plans for getting to them.

Over the years, I have watched many people choose a word for the year. Last year I decided that I would do that. I would choose one word that would serve as an encouragement to me throughout the year as I made my way towards my goals.

My 2016 word was ADVANCE. Here is my post about it. After looking over that post, I am pleased to say that I did advance in the ways that I wanted to. Some things I advanced in baby steps, but it was moving forward. đŸ™‚

When I began to think about 2017 and what I wanted to accomplish this year, a new word came to mind:

“BALANCE”

balance (n): a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions

It’s kinda funny how that word just came about because I realized that I have actually been feeling a little bit unbalanced in my life. You know how that is? I give so much of my attention to some things and other things fall by the wayside. So this year I am going to focus on giving my time and energy to things in the correct proportions.

I am really looking forward to what 2017 will bring! What are you hoping for in this new year? Have you chosen a word for yourself?
