This week’s book giveaway is for the contemporary women’s fiction book At Summer’s End (affiliate link) by Rachael O Phillips.
What is this book about?
While Magnolia Harbor, South Carolina, prepares for the highly anticipated Candlelight Journey Festival, sisters and co-owners of Magnolia Harbor Inn, Grace Porter and Charlotte Wylde, plan an elaborate party with a Revolutionary War theme as they welcome their latest guests.
Fashion designer Lydia Walkerton seeks solitude, hoping to find the courage to face her fears and make amends with her loved ones. Eager to begin their new life together, Daniel and Maggie Sims arrive at the inn for their honeymoon. But when conflicts arise in their family, the young couple must choose between running away from their problems and confronting the mistakes of the past. Meanwhile, after Grace declines Dr. Ian Southby’s offer to buy a sentimental antique, it goes missing, making the innkeepers question whether the eccentric historian is a thief. As Grace and Charlotte search for the missing sampler, the Magnolia Harbor Inn works its magic in the lives of their guests to help discover healing and reconciliation.

If I attended a Revolutionary War era tea party, I’d attend as Mrs. Houston, wife of Sir William Houston, Esq. who was King Charle’s Keeper of the Seals in the Colonial cities of Wilmington and Brunswick in the Carolinas. William Houston was the grantor of all permissions to conduct business and to acquire lands. King Charles granted him a lang grant up the Cape Fear River from the Atlantic Ocean (in the Carolinas) to the Hawfields area following the Cape Fear and the Haw Rivers. William Houston is a very distant great grandfather of mine and I am the daughter of a Sam Houston of the Wilmington (not the Sam Houstons of Texas fame).

George Washington, apple pie

Natalya Lakhno
I arrive at the Magnolia Inn dressed as Abigail Adams – simple colonial gown, lace cap, and carrying folded letters as if I’ve just finished advising Congress myself.
For food, I bring: rosemary roasted chicken, buttered corn bread, apple hand pies, and mulled cider.
The apple hand pies disappear first because apparently even Revolutionary War parties cannot resist portable dessert diplomacy.

My mouth is watering here, Natalya. LOL Thanks for commenting. 🙂
