This week’s book giveaway is for the inspirational romantic suspense book Her Darkest Secret by Jessica R Patch.

What is this book about?

The sight of a goose feather at a murder scene modeled after a children’s poem is enough to make FBI special agent Fiona Kelly’s blood turn to ice. Almost two decades ago, a feather was left with her sister’s body—and with every subsequent victim of the Nursery Rhyme Killer. Now he’s back. Only this time, his latest gruesome murder is a message to the only one who ever got away: Fiona.

Finding “Rhyme” is an obsession that’s fueled Fiona’s career—and destroyed her marriage to fellow FBI agent Asa Kodiak. Now Fiona and Asa have to put their past tensions aside and work together one last time. But Rhyme is watching, and catching this killer may force Fiona to reveal her biggest, darkest secret…the one only he knows.

Swimming was and is still my favorite Summer activity. I’ve always been drawn to the water. I grew up in a small coastal town along the Texas Gulf.

A treasured memory of my childhood is family gatherings (usually a big picnic with swimming and fabulous food) on July 4th. My Dad was a career Army man, meaning we didn’t live around kinfolks. It was always around July 4th that Dad would get his yearly vacation, which we always spent traveling back south to visit our relatives in OK, TX and AR. Being able to see loved ones when you haven’t seen them all year was a great joy and fun times stuck in my memory to retreive for joyful smiles. Plus it was the only time we had access to fresh out of the garden foods (like watermelon and tomatoes) since gardens were forbidden on base quarters. I’ve outlived most of my relatives so the memories of those times are very special indeed.

What great memories for you Kay. That is so interesting that the bases didn’t allow gardens. I can understand that, but it’s a new fact for me. Thanks for sharing with us. 🙂

I used to spend a week or two at my grandparents house. We had lots of tea parties with real tea and made homemade bread. I still have the bread recipe (I made it a lot during Covid) and drink the same kind of tea, only decaf these days.

How wonderful Perrianne. Isn’t is neat how some things from childhood become ingrained in the rest of our lives? Thanks for sharing with us. 🙂

My Strawberry shortcake trolley I loved it because we were poor growing up and I didn’t get A Lot of brand name toys

My most treasured summer toy was my bike. I felt so free riding it around the neighborhood. It was back in the late 50’s when there was little traffic and life was so much slower.

My friends and I would hike in the woods, along the brook, and the neighborhood power lines. We often took a packed lunch to eat at a certain large rock that had a great view.

I had a badminton set in my front yard. The net stayed up all the time and neighbor kids would come by randomly and play. We had a great time!

  • JOAN ARNING

My bike. We lived several miles out in the country with no neighborhood kids so I spent a lot time riding my bike. (on gravel roads!)

I always enjoyed our summer road trips to Ohio to see our relatives. We would load up our station wagon and stop for a roadside picnic lunch. Sometimes my grandparents came too.

one of my favorite activities during the summer was working with my dad hauling hay because it meant I got to spend time with him doing something he loved.

I got a box of Crayons in the late sixties and it was the huge box of 64 or was it 48. Oh my goodness it also had a crayon sharpener!!!! That summer was the best and I lugged the crayons and coloring books around with me all summer. That memory has always stuck with me.

        • Loraine

I love that Pam! I absolutely relate to the awesomeness of a large box of crayons with sharpener. We could only afford the 8 or 16 box when I was a kid. The ability to color with more was huge! Thanks for sharing that memory with us. 🙂

I always loved roller skating 🙂 But, my favorite thing in the summer was walking a couple of miles with my sisters and brothers to the library every week and finding what new adventures we could take through books 🙂

    • Loraine

Jan, we are soul sisters. Roller skating and weekly trips to the library were my best times, not just summer but all year long. Thanks for sharing with us. 🙂

My favorite summer toy were my Big Wheels. I had 2 different ones and used to ride them outside with my neighborhood best friend. I thought I was so cool when I got a 2nd one that had a “brake” lol. I really enjoyed being outside and riding them. I just remember really liking them!
