What is this book about?

In early 1800s England, Jess Beauchene has spent most of her life in hiding and always on the move in an effort to leave her past far behind her. But when she learns the family she thought had died just might be alive and in danger, she knows her secrets can only stay buried for so long.

Derek Thornbury loves the past, which has led him to become an expert in history and artifacts. He knows Jess has never liked him, but when she requests his help deciphering the clues laid out in an old family diary, he can’t resist the urge to solve the puzzle.

As Jess and Derek race to find the hidden artifact before her family’s enemies, they learn as much about each other as they do about the past. But can their search to uncover the truth and set history right lead to a future together?

My review:

Sweet romance and a thrilling treasure hunt made this story my favorite of the series. I loved Jess in the first two books and was thrilled to finally get her story and learn the secrets behind her unconventional ways. I was not disappointed.

In almost direct contrast to Jess, Derek was a great match, unconventional in his own way. The slow growing romance took them from acquaintances, to friends, and finally so much more. Every step of the way, as they worked together to solve the mystery of Jess’s family, I fell more in love with both of them.

In addition to the romance, and the mystery, there was an eclectic bunch of characters to help (or hinder) their journey. The interactions with these people brought humor and affection to the whole story.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Sweet romance with great characters

What I didn’t like about this book:

Nothing

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Absolutely. Satisfyingly sweet romance, great characters, and suspenseful mystery. This is the third book in the series. I recommend reading the first two books in the series to fully appreciate Jess’s backstory and the dynamics of her friends.
