What is this book about?

When Juliet Cole’s husband of fifteen years is murdered before her eyes, she thinks it was a random shooting. Devastated and traumatized, she answers hours of questioning, then returns home to break the tragic news to her sons. But a threatening voicemail escalates this from a random shooting to a planned, deliberate attack.

Juliet realizes that she and her children are in danger too—unless she meets the killers’ demands. But as she and her sisters untangle the clues, her husband’s dark secrets come to light. The more she learns, the more her life is dismantled. Was her husband an innocent victim or a hardened criminal?

My review:

The suspense just doesn’t let up and this time it involves a young widowed mother and her children. But this story isn’t just about the suspense; it is about betrayal, love of family, and trusting in God when a fallen world seems to be winning the war.

Having watched Juliet dealing with the false accusations against her brother in the first book of the series, I really felt sorry for her going through her own life threatening trials in this one. It was difficult for her to rise up after learning that so many things she thought of as true turned out to be lies. At first she is an unwilling participant to the circumstances, but when she is backed into a corner, the fighter comes out. It is stellar.

I loved the inspirational thread running through this story. Like with the first book, this one had a boat load of flawed people who struggled with their faith in the midst of evil. Very well done.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Juliet rising to fight for her family and her faith.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Another read taking me way past my bedtime. 😉

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. This was a great spiritual story with flawed characters wrapped in a roller coaster of suspense. This is the second book in this series and although it can be read as a standalone, there is a character thread that goes through the series.
