Tightropes and Teeter-Totters by Lisa Pennington | Book Review by Loraine Nunley

Synopsis of the book:

You’re rushing through long days with short patience and the constant feeling that you should be doing more. But how? And when? Each morning you tell yourself, “Today will be better than yesterday” — a hope that only lasts about fifteen minutes before life starts to fall apart.

Lisa Pennington knows the feeling! And she knows the way out of that rut. In Tightropes and Teeter-Totters, she offers

  • strategies for finding balance in marriage, motherhood, and even bad moods;
  • practical steps for experiencing peace through the messes;
  • playful yet biblically based tips for turning around stressful moments;
  • inspiration for shaping obstacles into opportunities; and
  • enthusiastic encouragement to fully live God’s purpose for you.

When it feels as though the next gust of wind will topple you, you can find balance! These practical and fun ideas will renew your hope, steady your soul, and bring new life to even the hardest days.

My review:

Every mother I have ever met, no matter what walk of life she is from, struggles with balance in her life. This book offers very helpful ways of finding where your life is out of balance and how to bring it back into balance. I loved the author’s humor sprinkled throughout. This is a very helpful and encouraging resource for mothers everywhere.

If you look further on this page (to the side on a computer or toward the bottom on mobile devices), you will see that my word for 2017 is Balance. So when this book came up for review with Litfuse, I jumped at the chance to read it. I was not disappointed. This author could have been in my house watching me as she described the ways that our lives get out of balance. I completely empathized with her when she related stories about her struggles in different areas. This was a great reminder that we are not alone in our struggles.

The author talks about balance in taking care of yourself, your marriage, your role as mother, your home, your free time, your friends, your finances, your speech, and your moods. She uses the word BALANCE to give you tools for evaluating and changing so that you can get balance. Plus she uses humor and personal stories to emphasize her points.

I found this book to be entertaining as well as informational and I am so glad that I read it. I will be applying the things I have learned to my life.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

Definitely the humor mixed in with the information.

What I didn’t like about this book:

Nothing.

My rating:  5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?  Definitely. Even if you are not a mother, but are looking for ways to bring balance into your life, this book can be helpful. It is also funny and I think we can all relate to those times when we are out of balance.

Note: I received this book complimentary as a participant of the Litfuse Blog Tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
