This weekβs book giveaway is for the inspirational dual time line romance book What I Would Tell You by Liz Tolsma.
What is this book about?
1941βThe pounding of Nazi boots on the streets of Salonika, Greece, reverberates in Mathilda Nissimβs ears, shaking her large community of Sephardic Jews to its core and altering her life forever. If only her people would rise up and resist their captors. At great risk to herself and those around her, she uses the small newspaper she publishes to call them to action, all to no avail. Her husband encourages her to trust God to watch over them, but God has once again deserted His people. Amid the chaos, Mathilda discovers sheβs expecting a longed-for child. Still, nothing stops the occupiersβ noose from tightening around their necks, and she may have to resort to desperate measures to ensure her daughterβs survival.
2019βCollege student Tessa Payton and her cousin take a popular DNA heritage test only to discover they donβt share any common ancestors. In fact, the test reveals Tessa is a Greek Sephardic Jew. This revelation threatens her tenuous faith. Always the overlooked child in her family, she empties her savings account and jets off on a journey to Greece to discover where she belongs and which God demands her allegiance. The enchanting curator at the Jewish museum guides her as she navigates life in Thessaloniki, helps with her genealogical research, and loans her a fascinating journal written by a Jewish woman during WWII. Tessaβs search, however, may open old wounds and uncover long-hidden secrets that could fracture her family forever and leave her with more questions than when she started.

My paternal grandmother did an extensive search and followed a few generations back and I have the list.
My great grandmother who raised three boys, her husband (my great grandfather) was killed in the back of their house when a gun accidentally went off. She was in the kitchen at the time cooking supper. What a shock! I have a picture of them together.

Wow, that could be a movie, couldn’t it Gail? Thanks for sharing with us. π

A few years ago my hubby and I were on a mission trip to Poland. I knew my grandparents were from Poland and that my grandfather preached in a church in a small town there. While we were there we tried to find that town but couldn’t. We asked the girl who worked at the front desk and she said she would do research for us. She came back to us the next day all excited saying she found the town in Ukraine. We hired drivers to take us there Nee we got to see the church ( which was still standing but mostly deer by the Soviets) that my grandparents attended and preached in. It was a real miracle.

I know that on My Mom’s side I’m Belgian and Scotch-Irish. I know even less about my Dad’s side except that they are likely Dutch judging by their last name. Oddly enough, this was found out by my cousin who is a nurse-practitioner who was told by a patient that the name is definitely Dutch.

Thanks for sharing with us Perrianne. π

I’m really into geneology & researching my ancestry. While doing this, I came across a newspaper article about my Great Grandfather who was a dentist for the mob where a malatov cocktail was tossed in his driveway & while he was in the hospital the police interviewed him asking who did it & all he would say is that he would get back at the people who did it.
Loraine
Wow, that is really interesting Sarah. Thanks for sharing with us. π
