Julia Monroe Begins Again by Rebekah Milled book review

What is this book about?

Julia Monroe has just turned forty and has high hopes for a fresh start after the last decade of her life abruptly left her a young widow and a single mom. With both her boys off to college, she can finally focus on expanding her New Orleans-based cleaning business. Julia is ready for new beginnings–but God has other plans. Samuel Reed, the ruggedly handsome Green Beret who shattered her heart over twenty years ago, has returned to town and is the kind of distraction she never saw coming.

After their first interaction in years leaves her mind spinning and her emotions out of control, Julia knows she needs to avoid him if she wants any chance of preventing history from repeating itself, but her meddling best friend keeps throwing them together. And now it seems inevitable that the man who was hard to forget might just be impossible to resist.

My review:

I really enjoyed this second chance at love romance. There was humor and sweet romance. Samuel broke Julia’s heart when they were in college and she struggled, for most of the book, to forgive him—perhaps a little too long for my tastes, but with her family dynamics I could understand her insecurities. Samuel was awesome from the start and he worked hard to prove to Julia that he was a new man in Christ. The attraction sizzled and I loved the banter.

What I enjoyed most about this book:

The humor and sweet romance.

What I didn’t like about this book

Took too long for Julia to forgive Samuel

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend this book to others?  Yes, although some readers may be turned off by Julia’s resistance to change. Realistic characters, humorous moments, sweet romance, and nice inspirational thread. This is the first book in the series.
